Fire Information SystemsModels to compare

NOAA Hazard Mapping System

NOAA's HMS utilizes all of the satellite fire detect products, combining them with both automated and human qa/qc. Fire detects are eliminated from known problem areas (such as the U.S. Steel building) and added when other signs of fire (e.g. visible smoke) are present.  See the Hazard Mapping System page for full dataset information.

SMARTFIRE

SMARTFIRE, developed by Sonoma Technology, Inc. and the U.S. Forest Service AirFire Team, reconciles multiple data streams into a single dataset that avoids double counting.  Currently SMARTFIRE utilizes information from both the ICS-209 and HMS.  See the SMARTFIRE page for full dataset information.

Incident Command System 209 Reports

The ICS-209 reports are required in the U.S. for fires over a certain size or fires that get suppression activities. ICS-209 reports are human generated.  See the ICS-209 page for full dataset information.
